The Runners are the human circuitry of the Memory Arena information network. The Runners circulate information, text files, notes, etc. between all of the necessary positions of the installation.

The Arena Runners care for the communication between the Arena Archivists and the Arena Administrator in the Arena. They escort the readers to the appropriate Arena Archivists at their stations and provide a water pitcher and glasses for the readers.
They are also responsible for coordinating the files which contain the text or text fragments that have been pre-chosen for each reader. The text files are thereby prepared according to the Master Protocol, and then are distributed to the appropriate reading positions.
